FAQs

  • The assurance of confidentiality is essential in order for counselling to be effective. Throughout the counselling relationship all of your personal information will be kept confidential. This confidentiality continues beyond the end of the counselling relationship as well.

That being said, there are a few legal and ethical limits to confidentiality that are important to be aware of. Exceptions to the rule of counsellor confidentiality include:

    * If you disclose abuse (sexual and/or physical), or neglect by a specific person, the abuse must be reported. If you disclose abuse (sexual and/or physical) by a specific person who has access to people under the age of 19, the abuse must be reported

    * If there is a serious possibility that you may harm yourself or others, or serious crime is believed to be intended, we must take reasonable action, which may include contacting the police or other responsible authorities.

    * In the highly unlikely event of a subpoena to testify in court.

  • The number of counselling sessions varies per each individual and their specific needs. Unfortunately there is no clear answer to this as it is dependent on various factors, such as the reason for seeking counselling, how long these have been issues, and your own personal history.

Some people report relief within one session, while others require anywhere between 5 to 10 sessions, however, that is all dependent on the factors listed above. Sessions will take as long as the individual feels they need counselling in order to address their specific needs.

  • It is important for me to create an environment of safety and I certainly welcome any concerns you may be dealing with. However, I am not an expert in all areas and it may be beneficial and/or necessary for your concerns to be addressed by another helping professional's expertise. Together we can discuss a potential referral or even collaboration with another helping professional that would be better suited for your specific needs.

  • I only work with individuals ages 18 years old and above. My skillset is with this age group and I believe that to receive the best care, it’s important that those 17 years and younger work with counsellors who are trained to work with children and youths.

You can search for counsellors within that age group by using search tools such as Psychology Today, Counselling BC or BCACC (to name a few). Refine your search for counsellors working with children and youth.

  • Some employee benefit insurance programs cover the costs associated with seeing a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). I always suggest to clients to check with your insurance company and group plan as eligibility may vary depending on who your provider is.

  • I accept payment by cash, cheque or e-transfer. Unfortunately I do not accept VISA or Mastercard at this time.

  • All cancellations or rescheduling requires 24 hours notice. Full fee of $160 (plus GST) for 50 minute sessions and $250 (plus GST) for 80 minute sessions will apply for any cancellations or rescheduling that are given less than 24 hours notice.
